The 2007-2008 Season offers numerable operatic treats, including a riveting production of Beethoven’s only opera, Fidelio, conducted by Music Director James Conlon and starring Anja Kampe; the Company debut of Karita Mattila in the title role of Janáček’s Jenůfa; the return of Mariusz Trelinski’s acclaimed production of Don Giovanni starring bass Erwin Schrott; our beloved Herbert Ross production of La Boheme; our iconic David Hockney staging of Tristan und Isolde; Verdi’s shattering Otello with tenor Ian Storey; the Company’s first fully-staged productions of our groundbreaking multi-year “Recovered Voices” project, featuring a double bill of Zemlinsky’s The Dwarf and the U.S. premiere of Ullmann’s The Broken Jug; Puccini’s thrilling Tosca with Adrianne Pieczonka and Neil Shicoff, and the same composer’s unforgettable La Rondine with Patricia Racette. We will also present a special concert performance of Verdi’s Requiem and a recital by the great Welsh bass-baritone Bryn Terfel, rounding out a remarkable season at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

In September 2000, I announced my bold future plans for our organization. At that time, I made a commitment to promising Los Angeles Opera audiences outstanding singing, great conducting, and stunning productions. I promise you that this commitment will be carried through with flawless finesse! It is an exciting time to be part of Los Angeles Opera; the coming seasons offer ambitious co-productions, inventive programming, and large-scale projects---the likes of which have never before graced our stage.

Please join me in sharing the magical world of opera!
