"Thoughtful, impassioned singing…rich golden-smooth tone and honeyed legato...The inflections in his virile baritone are now heartbreaking, the roar of emotion more anguished." - Los Angeles Times
One of the most celebrated singers on the stage today, baritone Thomas Hampson returns to LA Opera for a one-night only recital. This marks his first appearance with the Company since his 1987 debut as Marcello in La Bohème. He will perform German Lieder as well as selections drawn from his "Song of America" project, a program that he developed in collaboration with the Library of Congress, drawing on the unparalleled collection of American songs housed there. Pianist Vlad Iftinca will accompany.
There will also be a special Library of Congress exhibit and a post-performance "Meet & Greet" CD signing with Thomas Hampson.
PRE-PERFORMANCE LECTURE One hour prior to each performance.
Lecture by Duff Murphy
Pre-performance lectures are generously sponsored by the Flora L. Thornton Foundation and the Opera League of Los Angeles.
