Our high-quality, award-winning Professional Development programs provide an introduction to opera and entertaining ways to connect your curriculum to the operas in our season. Come hear opera recitals while developing tools for the classroom and earning salary points.

Learn about the history of opera from 16th Century Italy to present day, through presentations by experts on the art form. Full of fun and practical ways to get to know and embrace, Opera 101 will provide teachers with materials and strategies including tools for critical listening, examining the libretto, adapting source material and more. At the end of each session, LA Opera teaching artists will lead participants in a hands-on workshop that teachers can then take to the classroom.

Parking:Traditionally, parking has been included in the fees for this program. We are not able to guarantee free parking at this time and will know more soon. Everyone who purchases the full series before October 13 will be entered into a drawing. The winner will receive complimentary parking for the series. Parking at the Music Center is $9 per session. Light refreshments included in fee.
Enrollment in programs does not include admission to main stage opera productions.

LA Opera's award-winning Opera for Educators series explores opera from an interdisciplinary point of view. Gain insight about opera and the historical context in which it was created. Discuss opera as history and art, as well as language and social commentary. Learn all about the stars and artists of the opera world, as well as the production and business of opera. Enjoy recitals and rehearsals, and receive special opera news updates. Up to two LAUSD salary points are offered for participating teachers.
