Learn about the history of opera from 16th Century Italy to present day, through presentations by experts on the art form. Full of fun and practical ways to get to know and embrace, Opera 101 will provide teachers with materials and strategies including tools for critical listening, examining the libretto, adapting source material and more. At the end of each session, LA Opera teaching artists will lead participants in a hands-on workshop that teachers can then take to the classroom.

Dates: All sessions take place on Saturdays from 9:00am to 5:00pm downtown at the Dorothy Candler Pavilion.
October 22, 2011 - The Beginnings of Opera
December 10, 2011 - The Classical Period
March 3, 2012 - The Romantic Period
April 21, 2012 - Contemporary Opera
Fee:
$60 for entire series (25% off when purchasing all four).
$20 per session after October 22, 2012
Salary Points: Attend two classes and two operas or attend two classes and complete homework assignments for one salary point. Two salary points available for this program. Additional fees apply for UCLA Extension Credit. Enrollment in programs does not include admission to main stage opera productions.
Parking: We are not able to guarantee free parking for the series at this time. Everyone who purchases the full series before October 22 will be entered into a drawing. The winner will receive complimentary parking for the series. Parking at the Music Center is $9 per session.
