We Make it Easy to Enjoy Opera!

LA Opera offers projected English translations (also called "supertitles") for every opera performance at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in addition to other programs designed to enhance your experience (listed above). The words being sung are projected above the stage in easy-to-read English text, clearly visible from all sections of the theater. Since it takes longer to sing a sentence than read it, following along is very easy and won't interfere with observing the action on stage.

In addition to translating foreign language productions from the original French, Italian, German and others into English, the supertitle system is used even when the opera is sung in English - to enhance your enjoyment and understanding of our performances.

At times, you may notice that someone is singing, but the supertitle screen is blank. This means that the singer is simple repeating a phrase you have already read.

For questions about supertitles, please call 213.972.8001.

Community Programs

LA Opera is deeply honored to collaborate with numerous community centers, libraries, schools, and faith-based organizations to engage and serve our rich and diverse community. Each month, we offer scores of free talks, recitals and programs in neighborhoods throughout LA County that inspire appreciation and engagement with this thrilling art form.

Pre-performance talks begin 1 hour prior to curtain and are designed to enhance your experience at the opera. You can come in person or phone in. Complimentary to ticket buyers.

Our Opera talks are offered in various Los Angeles area neighborhoods and cover a wide variety of opera-related topics. Free.

LA Opera's Community Education program offers Adult Continuing Education and opera performances that involve the broader community. Fees, if any, vary.

For the 2012/13 Season, LA Opera is introducing Community Seating to increase our service to underserved members of our community.
