Richard Pilbrow

Richard Pilbrow designed the lighting for Los Angeles Opera's production of The Magic Flute at both its premiere in 1993 and its revival in 1998. He also designed the lighting for that company's production of Fantastic Mr. Fox in December 1998. A designer whose accomplishments are known throughout the theater world, Mr. Pilbrow has worked extensively on Broadway and in London, in both the West End and for the Royal National Theatre. His credits include the 1997 Tony-nominated production of The Life at the Barrymore Theater (New York); Show Boat at the Gershwin Theater (New York), which won both the Drama Desk Award and the Outer Circle Critics Award in 1995; and Show Boat in Toronto, for which he won the DORA Award in 1994. He is the Founder and Chairman of Theatre Projects Consultants, which has worked on renovations to the New Amsterdam Theatre (New York) and the Ahmanson Theatre (Los Angeles). He has also been involved in the construction of new theaters for Center Stage (Baltimore), the Steppenwolf and Goodman Theaters (Chicago), the Geary Theater for A.C.T. (San Francisco) and San Jose Repertory Theater. Mr. Pilbrow is the author of Stage Lighting - a standard teaching text in the United States, England and China - and of Stage Lighting Design: The Art, the Craft, the Life, published in 1997. |
