Matthew O'Neill

Tenor Matthew O'Neill makes his LA Opera debut as Tinca in Il Tabarro. A current Adler Fellow with San Francisco Opera, he made his debut there in the 2006/07 season as Borsa in Rigoletto and returned for the subsequent Company productions of Tristan und Isolde, Carmen, Manon Lescaut, and Der Rosenkavalier. In the 2007/08 season he returns as Heinrich der Schreiber in Tannhäuser, Monostatos in The Magic Flute for Families and Goro in Madama Butterfly. The tenor appeared this past spring as the Prologue and Peter Quint (The Turn of the Screw) and in the spring of 2006 as Don Ottavio (Don Giovanni) with the San Francisco Opera Center at the Lincoln Theater in Yountville. Mr. O'Neill has sung the roles of Bacchus in Ariadne auf Naxos, Golo in Schumann's Genoveva, and Tamino in Die Zauberflöte. In addition, he has sung the Evangelist in Bach's St. Matthew Passion and St. John Passion. In 2003 he was a regional finalist for the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, and he is a former apprentice artist with Des Moines Metro Opera. Mr. O'Neill holds a master's degree in vocal performance from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis and a bachelor's degree in guitar from University of Evansville. He is a former first prize winner of the Schubert Club guitar competition and a national finalist in the American String Teachers Association guitar competition.
