Jennifer Holloway makes her LA Opera debut as Irene in Tamerlano (November 2009).

Rapidly gaining increasing attention for her "vibrant mezzo-soprano and generous presence" (New York magazine), American mezzo-soprano Jennifer Holloway made her European debut in the 2006/07 season at the Teatro Regio di Parma and the Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris as the Baroness Aspasia in Rossini's La Pietra del Paragone. The 2007/8 season included her debuts with the Teatro Real, Madrid as Irene in Tamerlano, with Bordeaux Opera as Idamante in Idomeneo, both new productions, and, in the summer of 2008, with Glyndebourne Festival Opera as Hansel in Laurent Pelly's new production of Hansel and Gretel.

In previous seasons, Ms. Holloway appeared with Tulsa Opera as Mercédès in Carmen, with Gotham Chamber Opera for the Maiden in Die Schwarze Spinne, and with One World Symphony, singing both Dido in Dido and Aeneas and Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro. As a Young Artist with Santa Fe Opera, she sang Lucretia in scenes from the The Rape of Lucretia and covered the role of Lucio Cinna in the company's performances of Lucio Silla. Her debut with Santa Fe Opera came as Le Prince Charmant in Laurent Pelly's production of Massenet's Cendrillon. She has worked extensively with the Pittsburgh Opera where her roles have included Stéphano in Roméo et Juliette, the Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte and the title role in Handel's Xerxes. Equally adept on the concert stage, she has appeared in concerts jointly presented by Omaha Opera and Symphony and has sung Brahms' Liebeslieder Waltzer as a guest artist at Hofstra University.

Ms. Holloway is also former participant in the Opera Theatre of St. Louis' Gerdine Young Artist Program as well as the Chautauqua Institute where she sang the Composer in Ariadne auf Naxos, Dido in Dido and Aeneas, and the Abbess in Suor Angelica. She is a 2006 winner in Fort Worth Opera's McCammon Competition and the 2005 first place winner of the Georgia region of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and has been awarded grants from the Licia Albanese Puccini Foundation, Liederkranz Foundation, and the Hugo Ross Foundation. She received the Anna Case Mackay award following her participation in Santa Fe Opera's Apprentice Singer Program.

Also a frequent concert soloist, Ms. Holloway's oratorio experience encompasses performances of Vivaldi's Gloria, Mozart's Vesperae Solemnes, Pergolesi's Stabat Mater, and Beethoven's Mass in C in Athens, Georgia. She has sung performances of Holst's Seven Part Songs for Female Voices and Strings in Atlanta's Spivey Hall. Engagements in the 2008/09 season include Dorabella in Così fan tutte in Brest, France, with the Ensemble Matheus under Jean-Christophe Spinosi, Cherubino in Le Nozze di Figaro with Dallas Opera, Diane in a new production of Hippolyte et Aricie under Emmanuelle Haïm in Toulouse, and Meg in a new production of Falstaff for Glyndebourne Festival Opera.

Jennifer Holloway holds a Master of Music degree from Manhattan School of Music where she found great success performing Béatrice in Berlioz's Béatrice et Bénédict, Sesto in La Clemenza di Tito, and the Second Lady in Die Zauberflöte. She first discovered opera while studying music education at the University of Georgia, from which she earned a Bachelor of Music. While in Georgia, she made her operatic debut in Opera Athens' production of Donizetti's L'Elisir d'Amore and joined Athena Grand Opera Company for the Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte and Orlofsky in Die Fledermaus.
