Mark Henderson

Mark Henderson was the recipient of the 1992, 1995, 2000 and 2002 Laurence Olivier Awards for Lighting Design. In 2006 he won a Tony Award for The History Boys on Broadway. He received a Welsh BAFTA for his work on the televised opening of the Millennium Centre Cardiff. He has over 30 years experience as a lighting designer and has designed extensively for all the major theater, opera and dance companies in the UK and has lit over 50 West End productions. His Broadway credits include Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Iceman Cometh, The Judas Kiss, Copenhagen, Democracy, Hamlet, The History Boys (also in Los Angeles), Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Les Parents Terribles, The Real Thing and Rowan Atkinson in Revue (also world tour). West End credits include The Sound of Music (also in Toronto and UK tour), Marguerite (also in Tokyo), Grease is the Word (also UK tours), Amy's View, Our House, Up for Grabs, On An Average Day, Tonight's the Night, West Side Story (also UK tours), Spend Spend Spend, Neville's Island, Follies, Mutiny, Passion, A Few Good Men and As You Desire Me. Other productions include the UK tours of Sunset Boulevard and French and Saunders Live and Eddie Izzard at Radio City Music Hall (and US tour). His work in opera and dance includes productions for English National Opera, Covent Garden, Welsh National Opera, Opera North, Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Hong Kong Festival, the Royal Ballet, Rambert Dance and London Contemporary Dance Theatre. Television and film productions include The Tall Guy, Rowan Atkinson in Boston, Under Milk Wood and Choir of the Year for the BBC. He has designed lighting for fashion shows by Laura Ashley, Zandra Rhodes, Hermes and Jasper Conran. Larger scale and televised projects include "Showtime at the Stadium" at the Millennium Stadium Cardiff for the BBC; Royal Gala opening of the Millenniun Centre Cardiff (BBC); Amnesty benefit concert at Wembley Arena (C4); a concert of the music from Dr. Who for the BBC in Cardiff; and the Oedipus plays for the National Theatre at the 15,000-seat outdoor amphitheater in Epidaurus, Greece. Architectural and exhibition work include the redevelopment of the Royal Court at Madame Tussaud's (London, Las Vegas and New York). He is an Associate and Lighting Consultant to the Royal National Theatre in London and Lighting Adviser to the Almeida Theatre. |
