Internationally, performances include critically acclaimed productions with the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, Deutsche Oper of Berlin, Düsseldorf Opera, Bregenzer Festspiele, and Teatro Maestranza in Seville. Nationally, Mr. Hawkins performs leading baritone roles with Dallas Opera, Washington Opera, Seattle Opera, Metropolitan Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Opera Pacific, Florida Grand Opera, Opera Company of Philadelphia, New York City Opera, Houston Grand Opera, among multiple others. Concert engagements include performances with the Chicago Symphony, National Symphony, the Baltimore Symphony, St. Louis Symphony, The Cincinnati Orchestra, as well as the BBC Radio Orchestra, WDR Orchestra of Hamburg and Cologne, the National Theatre Orchestra of Prague, and the Vienna Symphony.
Recent engagements include Alberich in Das Rheingold with Washington Opera, the title role in Macbeth with Seattle Opera, Donner/Gunther in the Ring Cycle with Seattle Opera, Porgy in Porgy and Bess with Washington Opera, Amonasro in Aida with Palm Beach Opera, the Four Villains in Offenbach's Les Contes d'Hoffmann in Tokyo, Il Trittico in Düsseldorf, Germany, Marcello in La Bohème with Arizona Opera, Tonio/Alfio in Manitoba Opera's double bill of Pagliacci/Cavalleria Rusticana, Vaughan Williams' A Sea Symphony with The Washington Chorus at the Kennedy Center, and the Royal Herald in Lohengrin with Seattle Opera. Engagements for the 2004-2005 Season included the title role in Rigoletto with Michigan Opera Theatre, Miller in Luisa Miller with Dallas Opera, Scarpia in Tosca with Opera Carolina, Renato in Un Ballo in Maschera with Florida Grand Opera, and Tippet's Child of our Time with the Washington Chorus.
Remaining 2006 season engagements and beyond include a return to the Washington Opera as Alberich in that company's complete Ring cycle, Tonio in Pagliacci with the Seattle Opera and Atlanta Opera, Porgy in Porgy and Bess with the Chicago Lyric Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre and Dallas Opera, Rigoletto with Opera Carolina, High Priest in Samson et Dalila with Opera Ontario, Amonasro in Aida with Houston Grand Opera and Cincinnati Opera, Scarpia in Tosca with Cleveland Opera, Count di Luna in Il Trovatore with Montreal Opera, Alberich in Gotterdammerung with BBC Symphony Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall, which will be broadcast live on BBC Radio, and a gala concert for the Supreme Court Justices in Washington, D.C.
Frequently engaged throughout Germany, performances include Baron Scarpia with Catherine Malfitano in a new production of Tosca,the title role of Rigoletto, and a reprisal of the role of Enrico in Christof Loy's critically acclaimed new production of Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor all with the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Amonasro in Aida and Il Conte di Luna in Il Trovatore with Düsseldorf Opera and the Deutsche Oper Berlin. He has also performed Count Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro in a new production by Jose Possi Neto for Theatro Municipal de Sao Paulo, Brazil, andthe European premiere Of Mice and Men at the Bregenzer Festspiele in Austria.
Additionally as an concert artist, Mr. Hawkins orchestral engagements have included the world premiere of Jake Heggie's A Great Hope fell with the EOS orchestra of New York, returns to the St. Louis Symphony as baritone soloist to record Beethoven's 9th Symphony under the baton of Maestro Vonk, performances of Ralph Vaughan Williams' A Sea Symphony with the Cathedral Choral Society of Washington D.C., and a concert of selections from American musicals with Welle WDR 4 in Cologne, Germany.
Mr. Hawkins has worked under the baton of such notable conductors as Maestros James Levine, Sir Charles Mackerras, Julius Rudel, Rafael Fruhbeck de Burgos, Lucas Foss, Nello Santi, Marcello Viotti, and Yves Abel. He was a winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions and the Luciano Pavarotti International Vocal Competition. Mr. Hawkins most recent recordings include the title role in Simon Boccanegra in a new production with the New Zealand International Festival of the Arts and as George Milton in the first ever recording of Carlisle Floyd's Of Mice and Men with the Houston Grand Opera.
