Stephanie Engeln

Stephanie Engeln was born in Düsseldorf, Germany, and she studied interior design. Since 1985 she has worked in theater and opera as a stage and costume designer. For numerous projects she has been the associated designer of Robert Wilson's projects in theater and opera across the world, including productions of Lohengrin at the Metropolitan Opera, The White Raven at the Lincoln Center Festival in New York, and The Magic Flute, Pelléas et Mélisande and Madama Butterfly at Opéra de Paris. Her collaboration with Mr. Wilson has also included design projects such as exhibitions, design competitions and video. She is recently designed sets and costumes for Strauss' Die ägyptische Helena, directed by Keisuke Suzuki, in Tokyo. Other credits include: set and lighting designer for Verdi's Nabucco with Takahiro Ito in Tokyo (2002); interior designer for the Hotel Fort Rajwada, Jaisalmer, India (1999); exhibition designer, Heimtex Germany (2001-2002); EXPO 2000 design competition Pavilion for Algeria; design collaboration with Lucinda Childs Solos (New York 2002 / Paris 2003); artistic collaboration with the installation artist Gabriele Henkel (1996, 2000, 2001, 2003), gala evening design concept for fragrance company IFF, Avery Fisher Hall (New York 2002). |
