Philip Cokorinos

Bass-baritone Philip Cokorinos has performed in over 30 productions in over several seasons at the Metropolitan Opera, most notably Masetto in a "Live from the Met" telecast of Don Giovanni, the world premiere of John Corigliano's highly successful The Ghosts of Versailles, and the Met's premieres of Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, War and Peace, The Gambler and Sly.

Having performed nearly 70 leading roles in his career, Mr. Cokorinos' most frequent appearances have been in the roles of Leporello in Don Giovanni, Olin Blitch in Susannah, Don Magnifico in La Cenerentola, Osmin in The Abduction from the Seraglio, Mustafa in L'Italiana in Algeri, Frère Laurent in Roméo et Juliette, Figaro in Le Nozze di Figaro, Don Alfonso in Così fan tutte, Banquo in Macbeth, Daland in The Flying Dutchman, Gremin in Eugene Onegin, Zaccaria in Nabucco and Sparafucile in Rigoletto, which he has performed with such companies as New York City Opera, Metropolitan Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Atlanta Opera, Kentucky Opera, Palm Beach Opera, Edmonton Opera, Utah Symphony & Opera, Hawaii Opera Theatre, the Coro Lirico, Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center, Chautauqua Opera, Central City Opera, Spoleto Festival USA, among many others.

In the fall of 2008, he performed Amantio di Nicolao in Gianni Schicchi at LA Opera with director Woody Allen and conductor James Conlon. In 2009 and beyond, he performs Bartolo in Il Barbiere di Siviglia and Baron Douphol in La Traviata with LA Opera, Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia with Calgary Opera, and returns again to the MET for Tosca, Adriana Lecouvreur, La Rondine, La Bohème and The Nose. In the recent 2007/08 season, he performed Frère Laurent in Roméo et Juliette with Opera Carolina, Benoit/Alcindoro in La Bohème with the Los Angeles Opera, Rocco in Fidelio with Palm Beach Opera, Daland in The Flying Dutchman with Opera Grand Rapids, Forester in Cunning Little Vixen with Chautauqua Opera, and returned to the Metropolitan Opera for The Gambler and Macbeth.

In the 2006/07 season, engagements included Basilio in Il Barbiere di Siviglia with Opera Lyra Ottawa, Benoit/Alcindoro in La Bohème with Kentucky Opera, Frère Laurent in Roméo et Juliette with Nashville Opera, Banquo in Macbeth with Edmonton Opera, Forester in Don Carlo, Foltz in Meistersinger (covers) with the Metropolitan Opera, Benoit/Alcindoro in La Bohème in the Met Opera in the Park series, Don Marco in The Saint of Bleecker Street and Pandolfe in Cendrillon with Central City Opera. Other noted recent engagements include covering Le Bret in Cyrano de Bergerac with the Metropolitan Opera, Sciarrone in Tosca with the Met in the Parks series and with the Atlanta Opera, Capellio in Bellini's I Capuleti e I Montecchi with Spoleto Festival USA, Mephistopheles in Faust with Chautauqua Opera, Sparafucile in Rigoletto with Connecticut Grand Opera, and Raimondo in Lucia di Lammermoor with Chautauqua Opera.

Equally at home on the concert stage, Mr. Cokorinos' recent symphonic appearances include Haydn's Creation in Carnegie Hall, and Verdi's Requiem and Herod in Berlioz's L'Enfance du Christ telecast with NHK Symphony in Tokyo, recorded for DECCA with the Montreal Symphony. He has also appeared in concert with the Cincinnati May Festival, Spoleto Festival U.S.A., and several performances with Opera Orchestra of New York, including Don Magnifico in La Cenerentola, Raimondo in Wagner's Rienzi, Rochefort in Anna Bolena, Astarote in Armida, Cardinal de Brogni in La Juive, the Prefect in Linda di Chamounix, Capellio in I Capuletti e I Montecchi, and Sarastro in The Magic Flute, staged at the Temple of Dendur in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

His discography includes two works of Hector Berlioz with the Montreal Symphony and Charles Dutoit: Herod in L'Enfance du Christ and Wager in Huit Scenes de Faust both released on DECCA.
