Louise Callinan makes her LA Opera debut in The Fly in the roles of the Female Officer, Medical Analyst and Cheevers. Now based in Paris, the Sydney-born mezzo-soprano gained a Bachelor in Music Education at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music/University of Sydney and a Postgraduate Diploma in Opera Performance at the Queensland Conservatorium/Griffith University. She later joined Opera Queensland's Young Artist Program where she made her debut as Siebel in Faust. She was a regular soloist with the Queensland Pops Orchestra and also sang with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and Queensland Municipal Choir in Mendelssohn's Elijah.
Earlier this year, she appeared at the Paris Opera as a Flower Maiden / Esquire in a new Peter Brooks production of Parsifal. She also performed in a new production of Haydn's Il Mondo della Luna by Yoshi Oida that was seen in Rennes, Angers and Nantes, with upcoming performances in 2009 in Luxembourg.
She appears as the Second Lady in the 2007 film of The Magic Flute, directed by Kenneth Branagh and conducted by James Conlon.
During the 2006/07 season, her performances included Dorabella in Cosi fan tutte with the Israeli Opera, the Composer in Ariadne auf Naxos with Garsington Opera, and Flower Maiden / Esquire in Parsifal with the Berlin Staatsoper.
In 2004, she performed the Second Lady in Die Zauberflöte, Javotte in Manon, and covered the roles of Concepcion in L'Heure Espagnole and Ruggiero in Alcina with Opéra National de Paris. In concert she sang Bernstein's Mass with the Orchestre National d'Ile de France at the Cité de la Musique, Paris. In Sydney she sang Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia with Opera Australia.
In 2003 she performed a Flower Maiden in Parsifal, the Woman in Manoury's K..., Meg Page in Falstaff and Ninetta in Les Vêpres Siciliennes with Opéra National de Paris, Respighi's La Campana Sommersa in Montpellier, and made her debut with Opera Australia in the title role of La Cenerentola.
In the 2001/02 season, she performing the Second Maid in Der Zwerg, several roles in L'Enfant et les Sortileges and Stravinsky's Pulcinella at the Palais Garnier and Tebaldo in Don Carlo, a Flower Maiden in Parsifal, and Chalkiope in Liebermann's Médée at the Opéra Bastille.
In 2000 she made her debut with the Opéra National de Paris as the Page in Rigoletto. She also performed Concepcion L'Heure Espagnole in Montpellier under Jesus Lopez-Cobos, at the Choregies d'Orange and in live broadcast for Radio France.
In 1998, she became the first Australian accepted into the young artist program of the Opéra National de Paris, where she performed Concepción in L'Heure Espagnole, Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Meg Page in Falstaff, Dorabella in Così fan tutte and Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia.
Her concert repertoire has included appearances with l'Ensemble l'Orchestral de Paris in the Théâtre de Champs Elysées, with the Chicago Symphony at the Ravinia Festival, and with the BBC Symphony Orchestra at the Barbican in London. In recital, she has performed at the 2000 and 2003 Ravinia Festivals under the auspices of the Steans Institute and she made her debut at London's prestigious Wigmore Hall with pianist Graham Johnson.
