British costume designer Michael Stennett made his Los Angeles Opera debut with Tancredi in 1989, returning in 1990 for Falstaff and 1991 for The Barber of Seville. In Britain, his costumes have been seen in productions of Werther and Julius Caesar at the English National Opera, La Bohème, Peter Grimes and Tosca for the Welsh National Opera, and numerous productions for the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, including The Marriage of Figaro, Werther, Alceste, Falstaff and Lucrezia Borgia, a production also seen in Rome. His many credits for the Australian Opera include The Marriage of Figaro, Così fan tutte, I Puritani, Lucia di Lammermoor, The Daughter of the Regiment, La Traviata, I Masnadieri, Fra Diavolo, Les Huguenots, Jenufa, Peter Grimes. He designed costumes for a celebrated production of Anna Bolena seen in Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, San Francisco, Houston and Washington. Other credits include Orlando, Idomeneo, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and The Makropoulos Case (San Francisco Opera), Ariodante (Santa Fe Opera), Julius Caesar, Semiramide (Metropolitan Opera), and Tancredi and The Barber of Seville (Lyric Opera of Chicago). His graphic work has been featured on numerous album covers and many of his designs appear in the book Joan Sutherland: Designs for a Prima Donna.
