James Conlon has appeared with virtually every major international orchestra and is a frequent guest conductor at the Metropolitan Opera. In addition to being Richard Seaver Music Director of LA Opera, he is music director of both the Ravinia Festival and the Cincinnati May Festival. He was principal conductor of the Paris National Opera (1995-2004); general music director of the City of Cologne (1989-2002); and music director of the Rotterdam Philharmonic (1983-1991).
