Andrea Schmidt-Futterer was born in Mannheim. Recent projects include The Tsar's Bride at the Zurich Opera House, The Stigmatized (Die Gezeichneten) at the Salzburg Festival, La Forza del Destino at the San Francisco Opera, Die tote Stadt at the Grand Theatre in Geneva. Other projects include Moses und Aron with the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin, Tristan und Isolde at the Glyndebourne Festival, St. Francois d'Assise at the San Francisco Opera, and Lulu and Doktor Faust in Salzburg.
