Uruguayan soprano María Antúnez made her LA Opera debut in 2013, creating the title role of Dulce Rosa. Other engagements for the 2012/13 season include Marcos Galvany’s Oh My Son at the Vatican and Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni for Washington National Opera. Last season she was heard as Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte and Anna in Nabucco, both with the Washington National Opera, where she was a member of the Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program. In her home country, she has appeared at the Teatro Solis in Montevideo as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni, Adina in L’Elisir d’Amore and Sofia in Rossini’s Il Signor Bruschino. She recently debuted with the Orlando Philharmonic as Mimì in La Bohème. She has appeared with the Chinese National Symphony Orchestra in Beijing, the Miami Symphony Orchestra, the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, the Florida Chamber Orchestra, and the Piccolo Spoleto Festival USA.
