Born in La Plata, Argentina, in 1978, tenor Juan Francisco Gatell began his musical studies at the age of nine in his hometown; he then moved to Madrid to continue his studies. During the 2005-2006 season he appeared in some of Europe's most important theaters,  performing the Holy Fool in Boris Godunov (Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino), Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville, Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni (Teatro dell'Opera di Roma) and Tamino in The Magic Flute at Teatro La Fenice in Venice. Highlights of recent seasons include Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni at La Scala; Tybalt in Romeo et Juliette at the Salzburg Festival and at La Scala; Nemorino in L'Elisir d'Amore at Teatro Comunale in Bologna; Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville in Vienna; Cassio in Otello with Chicago Symphony Orchestra in both Chicago and in New York.
